Under the chairmanship of Qatar representative H.E. Issa Shaheen Al-Ghanim, KAHRAMAA Vice Chairman, Their Excellencies GCC Electricity and Water (E &W) Undersecretaries held an exceptional meeting in Al-Khobar – KSA on 28/8/2008. The State of Qatar chairs the current session of GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA).

During the meeting, the participants reviewed the visual presentation GCCIA prepared. This meeting paves the way for the signature of GCC interconnection project, and energy exchange and trade convention by the E & W Ministers (members of electricity and water cooperation committee) before the end of this year.

H.E. Al-Ghanim delivered speech welcoming Their Excellencies GCC E & W undersecretaries, and H.E. Assistant Secretary General Representative for the Economic Affairs – GCC Secretariat General.

"Here, I'd like to praise the great efforts exerted by GCCIA. In its 18th session, the Board of Directors mandated electricity and water cooperation committee in 1999 to follow up the project steps. The committee effectively managed to prepare the agreements at hand. We all should be proud of this tremendous project" He added.

It is worth mentioning that member states agreed on the execution of this project in the 18th session (Kuwait – 1997). States paid their share of project expenditure in the joint meeting between financial and economic committee and the electrical cooperation committee (Kuwait – May 2004).
