| KAHRAMAA Calls Contracting Companies to Stop Violating Electricity & Water Networks |

Engineer Abdullah Ali Al Deyab, Manager of Electricity Distribution Department at Electricity Networks Affairs (ENA) and Engineer Ali Saif Al Malki, Manager of Operation & Maintenance Department at Water Networks Affairs (WNA) have called for contracting companies to comply with electricity and water distribution networks drawings and maps delivered to them by the concerned department at "KAHRAMAA".
One contracting company has caused electricity interruption at three towers at west Bay area due to damage of a cable feeding these three towers without having reported the damage. Also, three contracting companies have caused damage of several water transmission and distribution pipelines. One company has broken down a huge water pipeline of 400 mm capacity at Wakra city whereas another contracting company has cause damage to a water transmission pipeline of 200 mm capacity at Al Salata Jadeeda area. Another contracting company has broken down a water transmission pipeline of 150 mm capacity at Hilal area.
In an interview with a daily newspaper, Engineers Abdullah Ali Al Deyab, Manager of Electricity Distribution Department and Ali Saif Al Malki Manager of Operation & Maintenance Department assured the necessity for contracting companies to comply with maps and drawings which KAHRAMAA provides them to secure non-causing damage to Electricity and water networks which cost the country a lot. They also called for these companies to report any damage suffered by the networks at standby telephone number (991) in order to repair faults arising out of the damage in a short time.
Engineer Al Deyab said, "Not reporting the fault at appropriate time has mad maintenance Engineer suffer waste of about three hours looking for the fault site, having discovered another fault after getting the first fault repaired.
Engineer Al Deyab pointed out that there is a remarkable increase in breaking main electricity networks cables. The first quarter this year has witnessed 241 cases compared with 155 cases same period last year 2006 i.e. increase by 55%.
Engineer Al Deyab said : KAHRAMAA through its staff who enjoy the official judicial capacity are taking actions related to the breaching companies. They prepare a report about the accident and notify the company's headquarter while obligating the companies caused the damage to pay penalties stipulated by law.
He assured that last year 2006, 771 damage accidents at electricity networks have occurred. He pointed out that areas mostly affected has been West Bay Area which witnessed 54 damage cases at electricity network followed by the industrial area of 37 damage cases.
On his part, Engineer Ali Saif Al Malki Manager of Operation & Maintenance Department / WNA said, "Damage cases at water network have witnessed a big rise of the first quarter of the current year 2007. About 77 damage cases at water network have been recorded compared with 49 cases same period in the year 2006 at a ratio of 57%.
Engineer Al Malki said increase in water network damage cases is due to negligence of contracting companies to comply with drawings they obtain from KAHRAMAA and these which show routs of water network or electricity cables.
Engineer Al Malki pointed out that the year 2006 has witnessed about (190) water network damage cases caused by about 64 contracting companies. Out of these cases are 23 caused by one company and 21 cases caused by another company beside (14) water network damage cases caused by a third company.
Al Malki concluded: Al Murrah area has witnessed (19) water network damage cases, West Bay area (18) cases and Ben Mahmoud area (14) cases, and call for contractors collaboration in alerting KAHRAMAA emergency call centre to report any damage caused by their team.
