Under the patronage and in the attendance of H.E. Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy & Industry and Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" Chairman, KAHRAMAA at Doha Four Seasons Hotel, signed 9 new awarded electricity projects (under Phase VII of Electricity expansion and development of Electricity Network in Qatar) against an mount 7.3 Billion Qatari Riyals.

The signature ceremony has been attended by H.E. Issa Shaheen Al Ghanim, "KAHRAMAA" Vice Chairman, a number of Managers and Directors at "KAHRAMAA", the executing companies representatives in addition to the representative of the diplomatic missions to their respective countries.

The contracts have included the following projects:
– Erecting and laying out high voltage OHL with capacity of 220/400 kv from Mesaieed new facility to Dukhan Road substation against an amount 313 Million Qatari Riyals awarded to NCC Company, Saudi Arabia.
– Construction of three substations at 400 kv (Abu Nakhla super station / Dukhan Road super station / Al Wajbah super station ) equipped with the most updated electric gas insulated switchgear against an amount of 1625 Million Qatari Riyals to ABB Company, Switzerland.
– Renovation and expansion of Electricity Transmission Network (phase VII - Substations) against an amount of 3210 Million Qatari Riyals to Siemens Company, Germany / India.
– Electricity Transmission Network Expansion (Phase VII - Substations) against an amount of 14 Million Qatari Riyals awarded to ABB-LLC company - Switzerland.
– Electricity Transmission Network Expansion (Phase VII -Ground Cables) against an amount of 424 Million Qatari Riyals awarded to the French - Italian Consortium Nexas Presmyan.
– Electricity Transmission Network Expansion (Phase VII-Cables) against an amount of 479 Million Qatari Riyals awarded to  Mitsubishi Company / Japan.
– Electricity Transmission Network Expansion (Phase VII-Cables) against an amount of 357 Million Qatari Riyals awarded to Marubeni Company / Japan.
– Electricity Transmission Network Development & Expansion (Phase VII - Cables) against an amount of 774 Million Qatari Riyals awarded to Saudi Cables Company /  Saudi Arabia.
– Electricity Transmission Network Expansion (Phase VII - Consultancy Service) against an amount of 117 Million Qatari Riyals awarded to EFC Company / Serbian and German company.

The phase VII project is considered one of the electricity main networks enforcement projects in the country. It is also considered one of the major electricity transmission projects throughout the world, using the most updated world techniques to meet the increasing demand on electricity.

The phase VII project aims at evacuating energy generated by the new generation facility (under construction now) at Mesaieed Industrial Area to meet the need of Mesaieed Industrial Zone. Such zone is witnessing a remarkable development due to the increased in industrial investments.
In 2008, a 1000 MW of electricity generated by the facility shall be in service. The generation facility maximum capacity shall be 2000 MW in the year 2010.

The phase VII projects comprise two parts. The first part shall include:
- Construction of Substations at a voltage of 66/132/220/400 kv. Their total number shall be 32. Also, amendment and expansion of eight substations with a voltage of 66/132/220 kv. shall be carried out – also enforcement and expansion of 34 substations with a voltage of 66/132/220 kv. shall be executed.
- Laying out new 66/132/220/400 v. cables at a length of 1189 km.
- Erecting and laying out a high voltage transmission lines with a voltage 66/132/220/400 and 293 kv.
- Expansion and development of the National Electricity Network Control Centre to be able to manage and control the new networks 400kv. which enter the electricity system in Qatar for the first time.

Part two of Phase VII (Phase VIII) includes expansion of the electricity transmission lines through construction of 30 main stations with a voltage of 66/132/220 kv. Also erecting and laying out 500 km. of high voltage electricity transmission cables of 66/132/220kv. This in addition to discharging the power generated at Um Said station by erecting high voltage line at a length of 160 km and constructing 3 main major stations at a voltage of 66/220/400 kv. And errection of 220/400 kv. lines at a length of 38 km. Such project completion and hand over period shall be in April 2008 along with the completion of Mesaieed Power Station.
