HE Al-Attiyah Signs 5 New Water Projects Contracts at a Cost of 481 Million QR
 

          H.E. Abdulla Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy & Industry and Qatar General Electricity and Water Chairman has, on Wednesday 11/10/2006 at His Excellency's Office at Qatar Petroleum, signed five water projects contracts at a total cost 481 million Qatari riyals. Such projects aim at water distribution mains replacement and extension at Qatar North and South areas along with West Bay and Old airport areas in addition to connecting water to Doha International New Airport and development of water stations at West Bay and Gharafa.

The signing ceremony has been attended by H.E. Issa Shahen Al Ghanim, the Vice Chairman at Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" Engineer Ahmed Abdullah Al Abdullah – Technical Affairs Director and Engineer Fahd Rashid Al Kaabi – Water Projects Department Manager at KAHRAMAA. The contracts signed are:

GTC 98/2005 Doha International New Airport Water Supply:
This contract includes extension of 12 km of pipes with diameter 900 mm to supply the new airport with water. It is expected to complete such project by August 2007. Qatar Construction Company has been awarded the contract against a cost of 51 million Qatari Riyals.

GTC 62/2005 Water Networks Expansion at Doha City Districts:
Expansion of water network at Al Wajba, Al Rayyan Al Jadeed, Khalifa North, Azeezia and Syliah areas at total pipes lengths about 115 km and diameters ranging between 100 mm – 900 mm. it is expected the project to be completed by February 2009. Lotus Trading & Contracting Company has been awarded the contract against a cost of 69 million Qatari Riyals.

GTC 78/2005 Increase of West Bay & Gharaffa Stations:
Increase of water pumping stations efficiency at West Bay and Gharaffa along with associated pumping lines. Two complete pumping stations shall be constructed, each station shall comprise12 pumps and their associated pumping pipes. The project is expected to be completed by March 2008. Hassan Gomaa Baker Trading & Contracting Company has been awarded the contract against a cost of 170 million Qatari Riyals.

GTC 115/2006 Water Networks Services at Doha and North Qatar (stage one):
Expansion of water networks at Doha and North Areas with total pipes lengths of about 216 km and diameters ranging between 100-600 mm. it is expected to complete this project by September 2009. Boom Construction Company has been awarded the contract against a cost of 134 million Qatari Riyals.

GTC 127/2006 Water Networks Services at Doha and South Qatar:
Expansion of water networks at Doha and South Qatar with total pipe lengths of about 107 km and diameters ranging between 100-400m. The project expected to be completed by October 2008. Boom Construction Company has been awarded the contract against a cost of 57 million Qatari Riyals.

The significance of the signed projects lies in the development and enforcement of KAHRAMAA services to secure the highest level of efficiency in compliance with the corporation's mission and objectives which call for availing the country's requirements at the highest efficiency levels. Also, signing such contracts comes within the frameworks of KAHRAMAA's plan to improve and develop water transmission network through replacement of old water networks and reduce the loss at the network.

 It is worth mentioning that KAHRAMAA has signed five contracts in June 2006 for water projects related to water transmission network development. Where main water distribution mains at Doha at a length of 76 km together with main water distribution mains at Doha and Um Said Industrial cities have been replaced at a length of 80 km. Also, a new water network has been extended at Al Shammal, Al Kaaban, Al Jariyan and Umm Salal cities at a length of 160 km. In addition to increasing efficiency of pumping stations at Salwa Industrial, Beni Hajer areas together with New Salwa, Old Salwa and Airport areas to meet the increasing demand on water with the architectural development.
