H.E Issa Shaheen Al Ghanim, the Vice Chairman has paid a field tour to a number of transmission substations related to Phase V Transmission Reinforcement Project.
H.E. accompanied by Eng. Ahmed Al Abdullah, Technical Affairs Director, Eng. Issa Hilal AL Kuwari, Electricity Networks Director, Eng. Nasser Ali Al Mohannadi, Public Relations Department, Manager in addition to a number of engineers from Technical Affairs and Electricity Networks Directorates, to closely witnessing progress stages of "Kahramaa" projects execution.
During his visit, H.E. inspected both completed and undergoing works at main electricity distribution substations recently constructed and those under construction within the framework of the main electricity Networks enforcement (Phase V Project), which includes enhancement of electricity networks, electricity main and distribution networks.
Duheil
The visit has included the new Duheil substation 11/66/132 kv linked with Gharafa substation. H.E. listened to an explanation presented by the Engineers regarding new transformers recently connected and operated. Through their operation electricity supply at Duheil, Gharafa and surrounding areas shall be secured.
Abu Hamour
H.E. the Vice Chairman proceeded with his field tour to Abu Hamour north Substation (Mesamer Area), which is considered one of the most important substation and the milestone of the main electricity networks enforcement (Phase V) project.
The substation is considered to be as nucleus of Phase V electricity project to enhance electricity supplies to the new developed areas spreaded in a number of districts in New Doha City. Also, Abu Hamour substation shall receive electric power coming from Doha South Super Substation to distribute it to three substations namely Doha Intermediate, Central Market Substation and Ali Ben Abu Taleb (Al Asserri) Substation.
Abu Hamour Substation includes electricity gas isolated switches of a capacity of 220 kv, 66kv, 11v and the main transformers of a capacity of 66 / 220 kv. In addition to installation of transformers, which embrace loads at these areas their capacities range between 11/66 kv.
The inspection tour has included: Trading Centre Substation (Towers Area), Doha Intermediate Substation (Wadi Al Seil), Central Market Substation (Ain Khaled), and Ali Ben Abu Taleb (Al Asserri) Substation. the tour has included visit to a number of work sites wherein electricity transmission cables is executed at a length of about 80 km in Doha city.
H.E. has praised work movement at such sites. He stressed that such projects should be completed at due date.
The total value of this project is 677 million riyal, divided into two contracts. The first contract of 6 electricity substations construction executed by Siemens Co. of Germany and Viatech Co. of England. The value of this contract is 446 million riyals. The second contract is of laying out electric cables executed by Marubeni Co. of Japan. With total value 230 million riyals. Parsons Parkins Houf Energy Company of England is the consultant of the Engineering Services.
Brief about the Main Electricity Network Enforcement Phase V:
Main Electricity Network Enforcement (Phase V) Project started in 2002 till 2005. More transmission substations constructed and cables network has been enforced to cope with massive development throughout the country. Total value of this project is 750 million riyals it comprises of five contracts divided as follows:
General Tender No. 13/2003 :
Construction of seven electricity substations as follows Abu Hamour, Meither, Ali Ben Abu Taleb, Doha Central, Duheil, Central Market, Trading Centre/2 with total value of 395 million riyals. It is expected to be completed by October 2006.
General Tender No. 14/2003 :
Laying out of cable lines of 66, 132, 220 kv. with lengths reaching 278 km, with a total value of 230 millions riyals. This project links the previous substations with the country's main network. It is expected laying out of cables to be completed by October 2006.
General Tender No. 15/2003 :
Construction of a state-of-the-art electricity distribution substation control centre at Naaja area supplied with total Value of 87 million riyals. all works is expected to be completed by June 2006.
General Tender No. 16/2003 :
This project includes construction of a new control centre for the main water network in the country. The centre shall be provided with state-of-the-art equipment as per international specifications. Value of this contract is 38 million riyals. It is excepted to be completed by August 2008.
The tour also includes a visit to the Water Networks new control center (Scada). The project is the most advanced in its type in the area executed by "Kahramaa". The purpose to execute such project is to increase water amount pumped to Customers, control water networks and reduce waste water amount by detecting water leakages in the network. The cost of the project exceeds 212 million riyals.
At the tour end, Engineer Ahmed Abdullah Al Abdullah, Technical Affairs director, stated that:
The main Transmission Network Extension project (Phase Five) is considered one of the vital and important projects to cope with the rapid growth which the country is witnessing starting from development expansion to rapid economy growth which requires more of the infrastructure works. The Technical Affairs Directorate represented in Electricity Projects Department has started executing the project in May 2004 against a cost of 765 million riyals. It includes construction of new electricity substations, laying out of ground cables and construction of electricity distribution networks control centre to feed Meseemar area, and feed Al Waab, Duheil and Fariq Al Murrah areas with electric supplies. The state-of-the-art engineering techniques applied in the project from the architectural point of view with respect to buildings so as to suit the architectural view of neighboring buildings and the general appearance of the surrounding areas.
For example Abu Hamour north substation, which provides trading impression as it located in a trading area and Duheil substation which gives residential impression as it is located in a residential area. By using the most updated international engineering techniques, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation "Kahramaa" comes near to achieve an international engineering record in a short time.
On his part, Engineer Abdul Hammed Jenahi, Electricity Projects department, Manager said: "Upon completion of the electricity transmission, "Phase five" project, electricity networks in the State of Qatar would have taken wide steps and have reached level of electricity networks in developed countries.
Execution of the project has delayed at the start due to some difficulties, which have been overcome. Such delay has been compensated in coordination with Electricity Projects Department and in corporation with the concerned parties Electricity Networks Affairs and the consultant contractor by increasing manpower required and confirming bases of group work, and improving communication among the relevant entities. This has resulted in overcoming obstacles to complete the project in due time.
The tour has been proceeded with a presentation produced by Engineer Ahmed Nasser Al Nasr, the Project Manager to H.E Issa Shaheen Al GhanIm, the Vice Chairman with respect to Phase Five Project in addition to the tour rout.
