Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "Kahramaa" signed a contract with United Management Consultancies Company (UMC) to develop management procedures and systems and to train technical corporation staff as a first step to be awarded the ISO 90001 certificate.

Signing such contract has been made upon the directives of both H.E. Abdulla Bin Hamad AL Attiyah, the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Industry and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation Chairman, and H.E. Issa Shaheen AL Ghanim the Vice Chairman, as such, Electricity Transmission Department shall be the first department to be pre-qualified through this training to obtain ISO 9001 certificate within the project whose execution has started on  May 2005 under the supervision of the Internal Auditing and Quality Department.

Engineer Ali Jassem Al Najjar, Manager of Electricity Transmission Department said, the department comprises Electricity Systems Control Section, Maintenance and Operation and Protection Sections'. He added the project has been prepared to cope with the spirit of the era subject to the corporation's operation strategy to carry on efficiency improvement and development process on Electricity Transmission Department.
The milestone of ISO 90001 system execution relies upon the Senior management convincing that the system execution in Kahramaa shall be of the target benefit on the long run with respect to cost effectiveness together with the corporation growth and development increase. It represents the guarantee to promote Kahramaa to be one of the international corporations. The Senior Management of Kahramaa has committed to avail all facilities required to execute this system, Al Najjar said. 

Engineer Saed Al Mohannadi, Head of the Project Steering Committee, declares; that ISO 90001 system is a series of specifications which aim at organizing services corporations and industrial companies to develop and document administrative quality system which aims at the end to achieve clients wishes based upon the contractual items and any other requirements not previously identified. This shall be made through an internal administrative system which secures stability of quality produced by the corporation for its customers where it has been a product or service, such as water and electricity. The ISO 90001 system is considered one of the standard international systems adopted by the ISO.
Engineer Al Mohannadi added; the application of ISO quality management would achieve efficiency and reliability of electricity distribution networks for all customers so as to achieve their aspirations.
