In the line of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation "Kahramaa" plans to reduce reliance on tankers for water feeding, Water Projects Department has completed a new Water Network Project one a month prior to due completion date to feed 1130 residential units in two stages at Duhail northern area with a total length of 116 km and diameters ranging between 100m/m and 600 m/m.

The project has been executed in two phases, the first phase laying out of pipeline at a length of 60km and diameters ranging between 100m/m and 600m/m. the new pipelines extension works started in November 2003 and has been completed in December 2005.

The first phase aimed to supply water to 560 residential units. The cost of the first phase worth 15 Million Riyals.

The second phase commenced in February 2004, and completed in January 2006 (a month prior to due completion date i.e. February 2006).

The second phase includes  laying out a of pipeline at a length of 57 km and diameters ranging between 100m/m and 600m/m to supply water to 570 additional residential units at a cost worth 17 Million Riyals.

The Water Networks Affairs Department distributed notifications among landlords at Duhail northern area to complete procedures to install water meters as a step to withdraw  tankers.

It is worth noted that “Kahramaa” has initiated in 2005, 13 new projects on water distribution networks and upgrade existing water reservoirs and pump stations  throughout  the State of Qatar . These projects varied between replacement of water pipelines, water networks expansion and construction of new networks to feed new urban areas throughout  the country.

"Kahramaa" has also executed expansion works of water reservoirs at Salwa Industrial Area, Beni Hajir, Gharafa and West Bay areas by constructing 9 new reservoirs at this areas at a total cost of 71.8 Million Riyals.
