The 15th Asian Games "Doha 2006" Organizing Committee has on Wednesday evening January 10th, 2007 honored a number of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation " KAHRAMAA" employees at Ritz Carlton Hotel in appreciation to their efforts and positive contributes in the success of the Asian Games and their succeeding in executing KAHRAMAA's plan for the ideal and efficient securing of electricity and water during the games without any accidents.

The celebration has been held under the patronage of H.E. Issa Shaheen Al Ghanim, KAHRAMAA Vice Chairman. Mr. Abdullah Al Qahtani, General Manager of the Asian Games "Doha 2006" Organizing Committee has honored the KAHRAMAA staff  and a number of members of the Organizing Committee.

In his speech on such occasion, Al Ghanim expressed his pleasure to celebrate the success of KAHRAMAA work team and its important and basic role in the success of the 15th Asian Games in Doha to be as evidenced by all the most successful Asian one ever held till date.

He said we: celebrate today a number of KAHRAMAA employees who effectively and directly contributed in the success of both our plans and projects to secure electricity and water for the games in a stable and safe manner. We appreciate their substantial role during the games to execute KAHRAMAA plan to efficiently secure electricity and water supplies without interruption. He assured that such role has been subject of great appreciation on the corporation officials’ end.

H.E. Al Ghanim addressed the honored employees. You have proven what has always been expected from you as you can stand liability and
that you are an example of commitment, efficiency and success to be followed. KAHRAMAA is proud of you.

His Excellency added that efficient securing of electricity for a world event as such is not easy. He explained: KAHRAMAA has prepared a detailed plan wherein all possibilities have been considered to be able to deal with any accident or emergency during the games: For such purpose, the corporation has recruited its most efficient engineers. Since the commencement of the event the plan has been completed.

He said : it is an honor for us to have the Asian Games Organizing Committee's officials to share us in this celebration. We express them our appreciation for the unlimited support they have provided KAHRAMAA work team with. Al Ghanim congratulated them for the marvelous success of the games which proved the whole that Qatar is capable to organize the biggest world events. Such organization has astonished the whole world.

He completed his speech expressing KAHRAMAA work team his appreciation for the great part they played for the success of the games in addition to efficiently meet country's needs with respect to electricity and water.

On his part, Mr. Abdullah Al Qahtani , the General Manager of the Asian Games Organizing committed said in his speech delivered at the celebration : KAHRAMAA has played a distinguished part as a national corporation and has clearly contributed the success of tournament events wherein it has secured electricity and water supplies for all tournament events including playgrounds, delegations' residential buildings, exhibition and others. Its technicians have played on important part as their presence constituted a medal which Qatari Youth is proud of. It has also been a source of confidence for its at the organizing committee as operation and maintenance teams have performed all tasks required. They have been the best ambassadors of the State of Qatar.

It is worth mentioning that the plan of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" of the Asian Games has completely succeeded in efficiently securing electricity and water without
Interruption KAHRAMAA has formed a committee to follow up operation and maintenance of electricity and water services for the Asian Games projects.
The committee has set out an operational plan for the maintenance of electricity and water networks, and make sure that services are provided all day round along with utilizing available alternative in case of any failure.
Coordination has been made among KAHRAMAA, The Asian Games Organizing Committee, the National Olympic Committee and Khalifa Sports City to avail electric power operation of all generation stations throughout the country : Ras Laffan – Ras Abo Aboud – Ras Abu Fontas "A", Ras Abu Fontas B/B1, Syliah Wajba, Doha South and Qatar Power stations.

The maintenance committee has coordinated with the generation stations to secure availability of power and completely cease maintenance works during the games so as supplies not be affected. Also, a workshop has been arranged for electricity re-supply in case of partial or whole interruption.

Also, the initial readiness have included maintenance of all stations which feed sports, media facilities along with the games residential building to make sure of their availability which increasing the load to its maximum. Engineer at the corporation have used mobile generators with a capacity of 1600,950,750,500 kv. In addition to 12 standby mobile generators to secure electricity availability.

Based on recognition of the operation and maintenance committee of the importance of the continuous supply of electricity to the sports clubs, it has availed three mobile generators and signed maintenance contracts for all sports clubs. Also, all facilities at the sports city have been equipped with standby generators to avoid any interruption. Supervisors have been appointed to supervise such facilities and execute maintenance programs for all equipment prior to the tournament's start.

As regards, water supplies, coordination has been made with different desalination stations such as Ras Abu Aboud, Abu Fontas "A" & "B", Ras Laffan "A" & "B" stations to avail production capacity which exceeded 166 MGD and avail standby surplus of 29%. He referred that demand at peak time has reached about 127 MG.

The operation & Maintenance follow up committee has coordinated with all desalination stations to cease periodic maintenance programs during the tournament and increase the storage capacity by 137 MGD, in addition to enforcement of storage capacity of about 23 pumping stations by 250 MGD to secure availability of surplus water for two days beside availing a technical team to treat any defect or shortage which might occur at the pumping station. This in addition to monitoring water quality subject to the world’s quality standards by examining samples taken from water pumping stations which have been five in number dedicated for the games.

Total number of standby teams and the technical team which directly supervised the event on KAHRAMAA part has been more than 400 employees. KAHRAMAA has completed its readiness for the tournament six months prior to its start and handed over all relevant projects in due time and at many locations prior to dates fixed. This is considered an achievement to be proud of.

Honoring has been followed by a supper meal given in honor of the honore4d employees which reflects the positive atmosphere and the distinguished brotherly relation between the corporation's employees and officials.

At the end of the celebration, His Excellency Al Ghanim presented KAHRAMAA shield to Mr. Abdullah Al Qahtani, Engineer Essa Al Kuwari and Mr. Nasser Ali Al Mulawi in appreciation of KAHRAMAA of the complete cooperation and coordination which led to the success of the Games.
