Within the frame work of the main basic projects executed by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation KAHRAMAA to enhance the electric infrastructure in Qatar and develop its services to meat the ongoing increasing demand on electricity for industrial, commercial and residential purposes, the electricity Projects Department at Technical Affairs has completed two major projects to improve electricity transmission and distribution networks. One of them laying out new line with voltage 220kv to transmit generated power from Ras-Laffan (RLF) plant and connecting over head lines with North Doha Super Substation (DNS)with 83 km length at a cost of 145 million Qatari Riyals. While the other project is constructing another over head line of voltage 33kv to provide Abu-Samra Area with power supplies with 60k.m.in length and at a cost of 32.5 million Qatari Riyals.
Eng. Abdel Hameed Al-Janahi Manager, Electricity Projects Department at Technical Affairs declared:" the new OH line project of a voltage of 220kv connects Ras Laffan plant with north Doha super substation comes to meet the increasing demand on power in Doha city. It included two parts, the first covers construction of dual cycle line with 220k.v. connects Ras Laffan plant and north Doha super substation, with a length of 83 km, and adding an insulation clues with a voltage of 220kv in Ras Laffan and North Doha super super substation, in addition to one transformer with voltage of 132/220kv and a capacity of 315MVA at North Doha super substation. Beside execution of necessary amendment at National Control Centre to assimilate and discharge the generating power from Ras Laffan plant, and bring it to the Main Electricity Networks".
Eng. Mr. Al-Janahi continued " The other part of the project included replacing the existing conductor between Ras Ab-Fontas station (B) and South Doha super substation with GTACSR heat resistant conductor in order to increase the line capacity with 30% to transmit generating power from Ras Abu-Fontas station (B) following new extension with a length of 10.5km.
Regarding the over head line project with a voltage of 33kv and 60km length to supply Abu-Samra with power, Al-Janahi notified:" This project aims to avail required power to Abu-Samra and Ain Hamad areas. The total cost of the project is 32.5 million Qatari Riyals. The project includes constructing of two transformer stations with voltage of 11/33kv in Abu-Samra and Ein Hamad with 60km. in length, connect Um Bab and Ein Hamad by a dual cycle over head line with voltage 33 kv and length 60 km to connect between Um bab, Ain Hamad and Abu Samra, beside execution of necessary amendment at both Um Bab substation and National Control Centre to bring in the project within the Main Electricity Networks.
Eng. Al-Janahi added "Currently work is going on to implement the necessary works at Ein Hamad substation by adding two cables with 10MVA capacity to secure needed electrical capacity for lighting Dukhan road.
Considering the projects meant to be executed by the end of this year, Eng.Al-Janahi stated; "Electricity Projects Department is intending to complete the electricity over head line project with voltage 132kv to transmit power from Ras Laffan plant to Dukhan passing by Al-Sulaimi with 125km in length.
KAHRAMAA in response to the increasing demand on power for the near future planned industrial projects in Dukhan and Ras Laffan Industrial cities as well as in response to the expected increase of population at the mentioned areas".
Eng.Al-Janahi said "The power transmission project from Ras Laffan to Dukhan city includes construction of over head line with a voltage of 132kv dual cycle with 125km in length, construction of Al-Sulaimi transformer with voltage of 11/66/132kv with gas breaker with voltage of 132kv and 66kv besides two cables with voltage of 132/66kv and 92mva capacity plus distribution breakers with voltage of 11kv, furthermore, protection equipment, communication and earthing also executed of necessary maintenance works to achieve the electricity connection between new Al-Sulaimi station with Ras Laffan and Dukhan stations.
Also to complete necessary maintenances works at National Control Centre in order to bring them in to the Main Electrical Network. Execution and launching of these two projects will be completed by December 2006, Eng. Al-Janahi ended.
