The Electricity Networks Affairs at Qatar General Electricity & water Corporation "Kahramaa" has started using a mobile substation with a velocity of 1000kv amp in order to secure continuing of the electric current flow from the general network to all customers without any delay. During periodic maintenance works carried out at stations by Kahramaa all around the year and to avoid any casual interruption, which might occur at any of its stations. The mobile substation is used to secure electric reliable supply of high quality in cases of maintenance or interruption, also cover failures which might take place in any of the equipment of the existing stations in addition to support civil maintenance works at stations. The mobile substation shall be connected with the general electric network during routine maintenance operations and programs to avoid electric current interruption. Such substation may temporarily supply areas where no substations are available with electricity. It can be used as a substitute to any substation exposed to defect or accident till completion of necessary repairs and reconnecting it with the electric general network. Kahramaa applies the idea of the mobile substation for the first time to secure best services to its customs and avail control in cases of electricity interruption. Thus, electric current shall be regained to customers in a short period. Safety and environment have been considered during design and construction stages, also in case of the substation maintenance and operation. The Electricity Networks Affairs has, although its engineers carried out several experiments on the mobile sub-station to make sure of its efficiency and proper performance. Having got the experiment at success several times, additional number of mobile with different sizes are being arranged for utilization in cases of emergency and necessity. It is worth mentioning that the mobile substation differs from the mobile generator with respect to its operation. The above substation does not generate electricity. It is used in areas where existing networks are not available. Thus, customers shall be connected through it with the general electric network for power supply to all customers without any interruption whereas the emergency generator only generates electricity and is used to avail electricity to all customers without connecting it with the electric general network.
