Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation “KAHRAMAA”, contributed and presented a Research Paper titled  (Operational Problems and Performance of Transmission Overhead Lines in Qatar ) within the events of the Fourteenth Seminar on Transmission Lines Design and Operation, organized by GCC CIGRE in the State of Kuwait during the period 1-2 December 2004. The paper has been awarded the Best Research prize for the year 2004
 
The research includes a scientific presentation of the operational problems and the general performance of Transmission Lines in Qatar titled “Operational problems and Performance of Transmission Overhead Lines in Qatar” prepared by Engineer Essa Hilal Al Kuwari, Director of Electricity Networks Affairs (ENA), Engineer Ali Jassim Al Najjar, Manager of Transmission Department and Engineer Chittranjan Bhatnagar, Senior Engineer of Transmission Overhead Lines. The Winning research has been selected among 20  research presentations contributed by other participants in the seminar.
 The paper discussed some of the explicit challenges faced in the operation & upkeep of the transmission overhead lines and the remedial procedures implemented or planned. The integrated approach has brought down the level of tripping per year to very low levels and it has improved the power system reliability

 Kahramaa  participated in the Exhibition associated with the Seminar. Kahramaa’s booth include  Electricity Network Maps in the State of Qatar, Substations Performance, techniques and distribution of Kahramaa publications.

The delegation consist of Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Khulaife, head of Customers Relations section, Mr. Khalifa Hashem Al-Saada, head of Protocol Section, Eng. Ahmed Salem Al-Malke and Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Khalifa.
 
On the occasion, Eng. Essa Hilal Al Kuwari, Director of ENA, presented Kahramaa cuirass and logo to H.E the Assistant under Secretary at Ministry of Energy, Kuwait.
 
The Fourteenth GCC Cigre Seminar hosted by the Ministry of Energy, State of Kuwait aimed at getting the participants acquainted with the modern technical development in the field of Electricity Transmission Lines Design and Operation. GCC Cigre is considered an important forum among participants, and benefits the utilities from the previous experiences in Electricity field among GCC countries.

The seminar discussed series of important cases in the field of transmission lines design and operation among which, is High Voltage overhead lines operational problems, Mechanical Heating test of insulators used in polluted atmosphere. It has dealt with experiences acquired in the field of rubber insulators in addition to measurements related to partial vacuum of the high voltage cables and measurements of the electromagnetic fields in vicinity and under high voltage transmission lines and its risk and impact on health.
